His present research interests are centred on environmental chemistry, with major emphasis on electrolytic methods for the remediation of wastes that are resistant to treatment by conventional methods. Electrolysis offers a "niche technology" for compounds that are "recalcitrant" towards conventional biological treatment - because they are metallic, or unreactive biologically, or toxic to the microorganisms of a bioreactor.
